LXL Foundation — Making Lessons of Life
About the Foundation

AboutLXL Foundation.

Education must prepare children not only academically, but humanly.

We didn't start with a foundation. We started with a question — what if education prepared children not only for exams, but for life?

Vision

By 2030, to build India's largest Human Capability Development ecosystem using Film Pedagogy.

Making reflective, empathy-driven, and creativity-centred learning accessible to every child, regardless of geography, language, or economic background.

Mission

Impact 11.1 million children — especially from government schools and underserved communities.

Through Human Capability Development programmes powered by Film Pedagogy — nurturing future-ready content creators, reflective thinkers, creative leaders, and confident young citizens.

A lesson is never about a subject. It is always about a child.

Our Journey

Twenty-five years building towards one idea.

1999
Chapter 01

Where it all began.

A young engineering student in Bangalore began conducting debate and life skills workshops for school students. Schools were helping children pass exams — but many left without the confidence, communication, empathy, self-awareness, and resilience to navigate life. The challenge was not academic achievement. It was human development.

2002
Chapter 02

Building LXL Ideas.

LXL Ideas was founded on a simple belief — learning must go beyond academics. The name: LXL — Learning the X Factor of Life. Over two decades it worked with schools, educators, governments, and millions of students on life skills, engagement, communication, self-awareness, and creativity, becoming one of India's most recognised educational innovation organisations.

2010
Chapter 03

Discovering the power of stories.

From 2010, LXL Ideas produced educational films on empathy, identity, resilience, wellbeing, communication, decision-making, and citizenship. This work evolved into Film Pedagogy — a structured methodology using cinema for reflection, dialogue, empathy, and Human Capability Development — earning multiple National Film Awards.

2017
Chapter 04

Taking cinema to the world.

Many underserved children had little access to meaningful global cinema. In 2017 this led to SCIFF — the School Cinema International Film Festival — now one of the world's largest school-based children's film festivals. Classrooms become cinemas, and cinema becomes a bridge to the world.

2018
Chapter 05

The emergence of LXL Foundation.

Established to bring two decades of learning, innovation, and impact into one mission — making Human Capability Development accessible to every child. It is the social impact platform scaling three programmes: Human Edge (HEP), SCIFF, and the Human Capability Creators Lab (HCCL).

Today
Chapter 06

A growing national movement.

25+ years of educational innovation. 40,000+ schools reached. Millions of children engaged. 175+ educational films produced. Multiple National Film Awards. International festival collaborations. Research and university partnerships. Government and CSR initiatives.

2030
Chapter 07

Building the humans India needs.

India's future will be shaped not by how much children know, but by who they become — empathy in a world of division, creativity in a world of automation, resilience in a world of uncertainty, communication in a world of complexity. That is the work of Human Capability Development.
